Technology is crucial in the Accounting Department, and having an expert to cover software implementation, workflow consulting, training, use, and support is invaluable. The benefits of Technology implementation are felt immediately, and include increased efficiency, reduced costs, increased security, and easy remote access.

Core Cloud Accounting Software

Software selection is critical. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Selection depends on a number of factors, including current software in use, entity size, industry, transaction volume, and 3rd party software integration needs.

Software will dictate the workflow of the entire department. QuickBooks Online (Certified Advanced Partner) is the preferred core solution. Consulting on other software is also available (including Xero, Quickbooks Desktop all versions, GP, FRX, Management Reporter, Peachtree). The core solution is the hub that ties all software and workflows together.


Apps can be integrated with the core accounting software for more specific uses. Common integrations are payroll software such ADP and Gusto. Businesses with significant inventory often use an integrated inventory app with far more inventory functionality than is standard in the core software. Other examples are E-commerce businesses using sales tax management apps and employee expense reimbursement apps. These apps send information real time back in forth with the core software, allowing high levels of customization, accessibility, and performance, while minimizing data entry and manual processes.

Cloud DMS (Document Management System)

The traditional setup is companies store data on a local server that relegates permissions, and perform backups. However Cloud DMS has emerged and is far superior, and I recommend Google Drive or Box. Benefits of cloud DMS include cost savings, security (all activity is encrypted), sharing of files using protected methods (vs. email which is not encrypted), complete remote access, offsite backup, integration with other apps such as Office 365 and Google Apps, and scalable storage capacity.
